Privacy Policy and Terms of Use

Effective 5 October 2026. Last updated 5 October 2026.

Privacy Policy

In short: Widgetdown doesn't collect, transmit, sell or share any personal data. It has no account, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no third-party SDKs. Your countdowns stay on your devices and, if you choose, in your own iCloud account, which we can't access.

Who we are

Widgetdown is an app for iPhone (and, when released, Mac) made by Jake Bailey, an individual developer based in the United Kingdom ("we", "us", "our"). This policy covers the Widgetdown app, its widgets and this website.

What we collect

Nothing. Widgetdown has no servers and never sends information to us. The only place it sends anything is your own iCloud account, if you use it (see iCloud). It contains no analytics, advertising, tracking or crash-reporting code, and no third-party software development kits (SDKs): it's built only with Apple's own frameworks. We don't sell or share personal information, as those terms are used in the California Consumer Privacy Act or any other law. On the App Store, Widgetdown's privacy label is "Data Not Collected".

What stays on your device

Everything you put into Widgetdown is stored on your device, where the app and its widgets can read it: your countdowns' titles, emoji, dates, designs, colours and fonts, milestones, repeat and reminder choices, and the app's settings. If you add a photo to a countdown, the app keeps a resized copy of it. Deleting a countdown removes it, and deleting the app removes everything it stored on that device.

iCloud

If you're signed in to iCloud and leave Sync with iCloud turned on (it's on by default), Widgetdown backs your countdowns and their photos up to your own iCloud account, so they come back if you reinstall the app and stay the same across your devices. This data travels to and is stored by Apple, under Apple's iCloud Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy. It's in your account, not ours: we can't see, access or recover it.

You control it:

Photos

Background photos are chosen with Apple's photo picker. Widgetdown only receives the photos you pick, never the rest of your library, and doesn't need permission to read your photo library.

Reminders

Reminders are notifications that iOS schedules and delivers on your device. Nothing about them is sent to us. You can turn them off for each countdown, for each device in Widgetdown's Settings, or in your device's notification settings.

Sharing

You can share a countdown as a picture, or send it as a link for a friend to add. You choose the app and the people you share with, and that app's own privacy policy applies. A shared link contains only that countdown's title, emoji, dates, repeat setting, design and the names of its milestones (not its photo, reminders, which milestones are ticked off, or any other countdown), and anyone who receives it can read them. Nothing passes through us.

Information Apple provides to developers

Apple runs the App Store and processes your purchase. Apple gives us sales figures and, only if you've agreed to share them with developers, crash reports and usage statistics that don't identify you. We use these only to fix problems and improve the app. You can change what you share in Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Analytics & Improvements. When Widgetdown asks if you'd like to rate it, the request is handled by Apple and nothing is sent to us.

This website

This website doesn't use cookies, analytics or tracking. The company that hosts it may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, for security and to keep the site running.

If you email us

If you contact us, we'll have your email address and whatever you choose to write. We use it only to reply to you, don't share it, and delete it when it's no longer needed or when you ask. This is the only personal data we may ever hold about you.

Children

Widgetdown doesn't knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children of any age. Because it collects nothing, children's countdowns stay on their own devices and in their own (or their family's) iCloud, like everyone else's.

Your rights

Data protection laws, including the UK GDPR, the EU GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act, give you rights such as access to, correction of and deletion of your personal data. Because we don't hold any data from the app, there's nothing for us to give you or delete: everything is already in your hands. To remove all of Widgetdown's data, delete the app from each of your devices and delete its iCloud data as described in iCloud above. If you've emailed us, you can ask us to delete your messages. If you're unhappy with how we've handled a privacy matter, please contact us first; you can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or your local data protection authority.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the dates at the top. If Widgetdown ever changes how it handles data in a way that matters, such as collecting something it doesn't today, we'll say so clearly here and in the app before the change applies.

Terms of Use

In short: buy Widgetdown once and use it on your own Apple devices. Don't copy or resell it. Keep your own backups of anything important. Apple's standard licence still applies, and nothing here takes away your rights as a consumer.

1. Agreement

These terms are an agreement between you and Jake Bailey (the developer). They apply alongside Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Standard EULA"), which covers apps from the App Store. These terms add to the Standard EULA; where the two differ, the one that gives you more protection applies. By downloading or using Widgetdown you agree to both.

2. Your licence

We give you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Widgetdown for your own personal, non-commercial use on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as allowed by the Usage Rules in the App Store Terms and Conditions (including Family Sharing, where available). You can't sublicense it to anyone else.

3. What you can't do

Except where the law allows it and these terms can't prevent it, you may not copy, modify, translate, reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble or try to extract the source code of Widgetdown; distribute, sell, rent, lease, lend or resell it; remove any copyright or other notices; or use it in a way that breaks the law.

4. Who owns what

Widgetdown, including its code, designs, artwork, animation fonts and name, belongs to us and is protected by copyright and other laws. You're licensed to use the app, not sold it, and we keep all rights we don't expressly give you. What you put into the app (your countdowns, titles, milestones and photos) stays yours; please only use photos you have the right to use.

5. Purchase and refunds

Widgetdown is a one-off purchase from the App Store, with no subscriptions or in-app purchases. Apple processes the payment, and its terms apply to the sale. To ask for a refund, use Apple's Report a Problem page; refunds are decided by Apple under its policies. We can't issue refunds ourselves.

6. Your data and backups

Your countdowns and photos are stored on your devices and, if you use it, in your iCloud account. iCloud sync and restore depend on Apple's service, your iCloud storage space, your network connection and your device settings, so we can't guarantee that every change will sync or that data can always be restored. You're responsible for keeping your own backups of anything important, for example with your device's iCloud Backup. As far as the law allows, we're not responsible for countdowns or photos that are lost.

7. Countdowns, widgets and reminders

Widgetdown is for personal planning and enjoyment. We work hard to keep countdowns, widgets and reminders accurate, but they depend on things outside our control: your device's date, time zone and settings, notification permissions, Focus and battery-saving modes, and how often iOS refreshes widgets. Life Progress figures and progress bars are approximate. Widgetdown isn't designed for medical, legal, financial, safety-critical or other time-critical uses, such as medication schedules, court or tax deadlines, or travel check-in times; don't rely on it as your only reminder for anything where missing a date could cause harm or loss.

8. Updates and availability

We may update Widgetdown to fix problems or add, change or remove features. Updates from the App Store are free. We'll try to keep the app working with new versions of iOS and macOS, but can't promise that it will work on every device or version, or that it will stay available on the App Store forever.

9. Disclaimer

Widgetdown is provided "as is" and "as available". As far as the law allows, we don't make any promises about it beyond those in these terms and those the law gives you that can't be excluded. In particular, we don't promise that it will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that it will meet every need you have.

Your statutory rights aren't affected. If you're a consumer in the UK, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 says digital content must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described, and nothing in these terms takes those rights away. Consumers in other countries keep the rights their local law gives them.

10. Limitation of liability

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that can't be limited or excluded by law. Otherwise, as far as the law allows: we're not liable for losses that weren't reasonably foreseeable when you bought the app, for loss of data you could have avoided by keeping a backup, or for business losses (Widgetdown is for personal use); and our total liability to you for anything arising from Widgetdown is limited to the price you paid for it.

11. Apple

You and we both acknowledge that:

12. Third-party parts

Widgetdown uses Apple's iCloud, which Apple's own terms cover, and the DSEG7 and DSEG14 Classic fonts by keshikan under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, credited in the app's Acknowledgements.

13. Ending these terms

You can stop using Widgetdown at any time by deleting it. If you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, your licence ends and you must delete the app. Sections 4, 6, 9, 10, 11 and 14 continue to apply after the licence ends.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can hear any dispute. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts. If you live elsewhere, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of your country and can bring proceedings there.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example to reflect changes in the law or in Widgetdown. We'll post the new version here and update the dates at the top. Changes won't take away rights you already have for a purchase you've made.
